Catalysts Coding Contest – A letter by Marcin Ciura

Hi, my name is Marcin Ciura. I am 40 years old. I am a professional programmer who has been programming for fun and profit for almost 30 years.

I live in Krakow, Poland, where I work at Google as a software engineer. I heard about the contest from my colleague and friend Anamaria, a Google intern who studies in Cluj-Napoca (Romania).

Last April, I participated at the Catalysts Coding Contest for the first time. I liked it and I am looking forward to participate in the next contest in Vienna on the 6th November 2015.

I really enjoyed your contest a lot. The tasks were refreshingly different from those in other contests. The biggest challenge in your contest was an ambiguity in the formulation of task five. From the charts of participant time spent on each task I can infer that many participants had the same problem as me: they were unable to tell if you meant rotation of the object around an external centre or also around its own centre.

I liked how the stepwise gradation of difficulty made me keep refactoring and refining the code — level by level.

The fun thing is that I could participate from far away over the online system of the CatCoder. Keep up the good good work and help the developers around the world by organizing more contests.

All the best, Marcin
